Powerful Questions“What is the result I have in mind?”

We call this the RESULT STATE MIND question.  Use this question, use it all the time and you will notice your whole world changing for the better.

Notice what questions sound similar that I didn’t ask.

“What do I want?

Asking “what do I want” builds in a state that many people find not all that useful. The “wanting it” state. You can start with this question, but move into the RESULT STATE MIND question fast or you risk being stuck in wanting for a long long time.

“What do I hope to accomplish?

Questions based on accomplishment have some great power in them, because they make getting the result UP TO YOU. The biggest problem with this specific question is “hope”. Hope tends to put getting the result outside of you, while accomplishing the goal is up to you. See how this kind of question can mess you up and dilute your focus?

“Why do I never get things done?”

Ask this specific question, and you never will get anything done, including getting an answer that will FREE YOU.   Listen, if you are ready to make some changes, one of the most powerful things you can do is ELIMINATE most of your why questions, because they mostly a waste of time.

BACK TO BASICS.

Try on the Starting Sequence below.  Notice how it focuses and energizes you.

1.  ”What is the result you / I have in mind?”

This question will focus you on the SPECIFIC WHAT.

2.  ”What are the 3 main benefits of this result?”

This question will help you understand what you really want, and help you also access the energy needed to get this done.  This specific question may also  refine or totally redefine “the result you have in mind”.

3.  ”What 3 things can I do starting right now on this?

Not starting later this week, not starting later today, starting right now.  I jotted down a note, put it by my monitor, made a coomitment to write THIS ARTICLE.

This article, is a direct result of using these questions.

    Is not the structure of the response to the “what do I want” question, the same structure as the response of “what result do I have in mind” question?

    In other words, using your “Starter Sequence”, both questions get me to the same place…

    Thoughts?

      Hi William,

      The basic information in both responses tends to be similar – maybe even identical. The DIFFERENCE tends to be when asking “what do I want” for many folks – this keeps them in a loop of wanting – with a state that doesn’t support action and that doesn’t generate needed data and behavior.

      Let me know if that makes more sense.

      Note: On a coaching call or live training, I will often ask, “What do you want?” to prime the pump, then ask a form of “what is the result you have in mind” question. The reason I do this LIVE is that it tends to ttrain THEIR mind to go through that sequence – because in the real world – people are always asking “what do you want” – so if we train in a pathway to “what is the result I / you have in mind” that first question tends to automatically lead to the next.
